Welcome to the homepage of the International Nuclear Target Development Society (INTDS).

We are a not-for-profit, educational organization that:

Encourages the sharing of techniques developed, or being developed, to provide research-quality targets and reference samples, mostly for basic research in physics, chemistry, and related sciences.
Publishes the techniques of target preparation and related topics in a manner easily located in the scientific literature. Today a PC-based database of INTDS publications lists 926 articles and is searchable with more than 250 relevant keywords. Many of the articles were published as editions of Nuclear Instruments and Methods and are proceedings of INTDS conferences. Twice a year we publish an INTDS Newsletter.
Mentors people new to target and sample preparation.
Provides modest financial support for hosts of INTDS conferences and for selected speakers.

We trace our roots to 1963 and the First Symposium on Research Materials for Nuclear Measurements, sponsored by the Central Bureau for Nuclear Measurements (CBNM) in Geel, Belgium.  Our biennial, autumn conferences have been held in Europe, North America and, most recently, in Japan. Check our interests page to determine if they're similar to yours.

September 15-19, 2008: The 24th World Conference of the INTDS, "Developing Techniques for Target Preparation and Applications" will be hosted by GANIL at Caen, France. Click on the first link at left to access the conference website. Return there and to this page for the latest information on participation, paper submission, and deadlines for registration and submission of papers. Papers on the following, or related, topics will be gratefully received: ^ Radioactive targets, ^ High-power thin targets, ^ Stripper foils, ^ Hydrogen targets, ^ Isotopic enrichment material,^ Target characterization.
The INTDS offers some financial assistance to support travel expenses of a limited number of potential participants. Applications should be sent to David Gilliam. The minimum requirement for financial support is submission of a contributed paper at the registration desk, at the latest. Earlier submission is more than welcome. This strict policy is a consequence of past experience.

Proceedings of the 23rd INTDS World Conference (2006) are in the print queue of Elsevier as a special issue of Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research – A, expected September 2008. Bravo to Isao Sugai and KEK in Japan for funding the proceedings and for hosting the wonderfully enriching 2006  Conference.
